Milestones & History

2020

Would travelers switch from flying to buses if they were truly comfortable on long routes? Initial surveys show: Yes, immediately!

2020

The Migros Pioneer Fund recognizes the social potential and decides to generously support the idea.

2021

Road safety experts from Bern University of Applied Sciences, together with Twiliner and supported by Innosuisse, develop a revolutionary safety system for lie-flat passengers.

2022

R&D, discussions, presentations. Phew, that's a long process. Nothing significant happens.

2023

The innovative bus partners Staf Cars (Belgium) and Emile Weber (Luxembourg) embark on the adventure. Prototype construction, patent applications, funding rounds – suddenly, things get a bit easier.

2024

Bang! The dummy crashes into the wall and - it's perfectly fine. The safety system passes the test and Europe's first lie-flat seat is certified. Together with our partners, we order three buses.

2025

Our first buses are completed and presented to regulatory authorities, the public, and the media. Finally, it's time to launch. Twiliner launches on the Zurich-Barcelona and Zurich-Brussels/Amsterdam routes.

Today

It's a rollercoaster. Highlights – full buses, satisfied passengers, Europe-wide media presence – are interspersed with challenges like technical problems, cancellations, and staff shortages.

Future

Leading bus partners and a state railway company join Twiliner. With additional buses and partner hotels in cities, Twiliner is growing into a Europe-wide mobility network.

The day after tomorrow

Twiliner continues to scale with fully electric buses and the Twiliner Seat 2.0. The night bus network covers most major cities and holiday destinations in Europe.
